Climate Producer

Persephonica is looking for a Climate producer to join us on an incredibly exciting show: 'Outrage & Optimism: The Climate Podcast'. We are looking for somebody passionate about climate stories to help develop an already established and popular show. You’ll be tasked with running the weekly show and helping us to grow the audience in what is an essential year for the future of the planet.

The successful candidate will have a passion for stories about the climate and our environment and a healthy knowledge of the way politics intersects with the topic. We are looking for somebody ambitious who has a proven track record of creating engaging, interesting and intelligent content. You will also have had success in using clips from the show to grow social media audiences too.

The Role

We’re looking for a Climate/ Science producer to lead the production of Outrage & Optimism: The Climate Podcast, hosted by some of the most pivotal people in the climate movement, Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac and Paul Dickinson. 2025 is a hugely consequential year for the climate and the future of the planet and who better to listen to than some of the figures who were instrumental in the signing of the Paris Agreement back in 2015. We are looking to grow the show’s audience and to prepare for some of the big events of this year including COP 30 in Brazil.

You will be responsible for the weekly running of the podcast and growing its success. This includes generating ideas for the show, chairing meetings with our hosts, scheduling, leading the production team (audio and video), writing scripts and running orders, output editing the recording session, overseeing the edit and publishing the episode. You will be working with our talented video producer to choose social media clips, sign off video content and will supply content to the podcast’s social media team. You will report to Executive Producers Ellie Clifford.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years demonstrable experience producing successful science programmes or news and current affairs programmes - whether podcasts, radio news programmes or documentaries. This does not include work experience or work undertaken whilst studying.

  • We’re looking for a journalist who has a strong interest in climate stories. You will have a comprehensive understanding of the international climate movement and have plenty of ideas for exciting guests and key dates in 2025. You will have a passion for climate news and current affairs and have a keen eye for engaging and important stories, told with rigour.

  • Experience of working with high profile talent and big name guests.

  • Advanced audio editing skills including mixing and mastering. Familiarity with Adobe Audition and Descript are preferable.

  • The ability to run recording sessions in a studio, use recording equipment and experience of recording audio on location.

  • Experience managing live-streamed recordings is helpful.

  • Demonstrable experience in maintaining and growing social media accounts and a solid understanding of what makes good visualisation - you will work closely with a video producer.

  • Sound editorial judgement, a strong knowledge of media law and an eye for detail.

  • You will have high standards and always strive to produce the highest quality content.

  • You will be a highly-organised team player and a great communicator with the ability to manage a project with tight deadlines.

PLEASE NOTE: The role will involve recording and publishing a podcast within 24 hours so experience of quick turnaround productions is essential. You will be required to produce an episode that’s ready for publication without the support of a sound designer.
